Faculty of Construction Science
Welcome to the Faculty of Construction and Construction. Our Faculty combines the skills, diverse experiences and talents of its faculty members with an innovative educational curriculum to educate future construction professionals. The Faculty is dedicated to construction science and management and is committed to excellence in education and research.
Accommodating the needs of employers wherever possible makes it a first choice for many international businesses in the trades and related industries. Custom built to suit the training needs of each trade, it is popular with employers and students alike.
To ensure training is available when it is convenient for the student and their employer, programs are offered on a part-time basis.
The faculty is strongly involved in community projects which give students a high ratio of real experience. Projects include onsite construction of largest commercial buildings, hotel, shopping complexes.
A strong awareness of employers’ needs determines trade training at the affiliated centres, where custom built facilities equip students with top tuition and industry experience.
The faculty is directly involved in community projects giving students ‘hands-on’ training in a range of building and construction areas.
Department of Building and Real Estate

Department of Civil and Structural Engineering
Department of Building and Real Estate
The department has been producing graduates for the construction, real estate, and related industries for over 10 years. During this time they have helped develop the infrastructure and services of the region. Many of our graduates now occupy important positions in the building and real estate industries. They represent an important group of people contributing to the growth and development of the industries.
We are educating and training young people for the future of building and real estate industries. We provide educational programmes in the construction and the real estate sectors which will enable students to develop their full potential for personal and academic development and will enable them to practice and lead within their chosen professional discipline. Our aim is to provide programmes that are application orientated, and produce graduates who can apply theories in practice. To ensure this our research is of an applied nature relevant to industrial commercial and community needs. We will continue to develop dedicated partnerships with business, industry and the professions.
Increasingly industry is looking for graduates who can work in an interdisciplinary way to create innovative solutions to the challenges of the physical and economic environment of the 21st Century. With our wide range of knowledge and expertise, the department is ideally placed to educate young people for their and our future. The Department is introducing innovative programmes to ensure that the education we provide to our students will make them ideally suited to professional careers in the world. Visit our section on Programmes to learn more about existing programmes and future plans.

Department of Building Services Engineering
The Department provides a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, specialist courses, research and consultancy work.
Increasing sophistication required by businesses, demand for higher standards of comfort and safety, concerns for the environment and the need for more efficient use of energy, have all led to substantial complexities in the systems needed, and the costs incurred. The engineering systems in buildings account for a major part of the construction cost. The large, densely populated, high-rise buildings found in modern cities are presenting new challenges to test the skills of building services engineers and facility managers. The design of buildings needs to take into account the dynamic interactions between the external environment, the building envelope, the engineering systems and equipment, and the people and activities housed in the building. This requires careful integration of the various system designs with the building and user needs. It requires careful co-ordination of the various installation work during construction, and proper commissioning of all engineering systems before hand-over to the building operator.
Efficient operation of large buildings needs a sound understanding of the interactions between systems and the activities of users. Operation and maintenance must be of the highest standard to ensure a safe, healthy and energy efficient building.
Building Services Engineering (BSE) has been described as the art and science of designing, installing, operating and maintaining engineering services systems and equipment in and around buildings. Given the significant impacts that buildings have on the occupants and on the environment over their life cycle, and with greater focus on environmental sustainability, building services engineers have a major responsibility to enhance energy conservation and environmental performance of buildings.
Building services systems are intended to provide a healthy and comfortable indoor environment, a safe and secure indoor environment, means for transportation and communication and facilities in support of the activities carried out in buildings.
The essence of BSE is to optimum the design and efficient operation of the buildings, which needs to take account into the dynamic interactions between the external environment, the building envelope, the building services systems and technology, and the people and activities housed in the building.
