Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management
The Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management will be home to undergraduate and graduate degree programs, executive education, and continuing professional development activities that focus on the needs of tourism professionals seeking entry to, or already employed in, the international travel and hospitality fields.
The Faculty will serve as one of Asia’s “gateways” to the emerging Pacific Rim tourism and hotel sectors, preparing international learners for successful careers in these fields in countries throughout the region and the world. Graduates will meet, exceed, and set anew global standards of excellence in service and business acumen.
With many years of experience in educating Malaysians in the field of hospitality service, the faculty today can be proud of its achievements and developments.
The expansion of the faculty in the affiliate campuses, and the establishment of its hospitality centre of excellence are indicators of our forward moving into new frontiers of knowledge and information. Two centres of excellence are designed to coordinate hospitality and tourism research and consultancy.
In preparing the next generations to be the leaders of the industry, the faculty advances the professional standards and goals of the industry into the curriculum. Industry linkages and participation in the academic arena are also emphasized.

The Department of Hotel Management (DHM) was established in 1995 and is committed to train students who are readily employed by hospitality-related companies. From the academic aspect, DHM has been famous for its state-of-the-art facilities and experienced faculty among vocational colleges and universities in Taiwan. The state-of-the-art facilities in our affiliate centres in many countries include well-equipped classrooms, simulated guest rooms, business centers, culinary classrooms with kitchen qualified for national culinary tests, and cafe restaurants, providing a complete and professional learning environment for DHM students. The experienced faculty members have diverse educational backgrounds and earned their degrees from such countries as India, Africa, Asia and China that are all well-known for their booming hospitality industries. Furthermore, DHM has engaged internship and cooperative plans with some of the top international hotels (partner hotels) in China. With this tight link to hospitality industry, DHM students’ learning and practical skills are expected to be integrated and updated, thus reaching the career-oriented goal of vocational education.
As far as curriculum, DHM currently offers 3 specific areas of study: Hotel Management, Food and Beverage Management, and Service Management. Some of the required courses are Hotel Management, Front Desk Management, Housekeeping Management, Hotel Accounting, Economics, and Basic Statistics. Elective courses including Food and Beverage Management, Bartending and Wines, Food Preparation, Work Ethics, and Financial Analysis are also available. DHM students are able to select whatever elective courses based on their interests and career goals. In addition, language courses, especially Chinese, English, Japanese and many other languages, play an important part in DHM’s curriculum. It is expected that by extensive training of foreign languages, DHM students are capable of communicating efficiently and effectively in the global workplace. There is also one special required course: Holistic Education Passport, which requires DHM students to participate in such activities as volunteers, cultural and artistic events, and reading designated books each semester, so that they can learn how to be responsible for not only being good students but also being good citizens.
DHM students of the 3-year program are required to complete one-year internship at the partner hotels. These partner hotels including many five star hotels, which has been offering intern positions for DHM students since day one. They have been gladly accepting DHM students as their interns because they have seen how DHM students had shown their positive attitude and given their best in the workplace. As a result, DHM students as well as DHM graduates have earned an excellent reputation in the hospitality industry.

Department of Tourism Management
The Department of Tourism Management cultivates comprehensive tourism professionals. The Department offers bachelor degree program in the area of Travel Management and Hospitality Management.
The tourism industry embraces a wide range of organizations, including travel agents, tour operators, airlines, theme parks, hotels, restaurants, convention centers, leisure centers and related services. This program is designed to provide a broad based education and training in the field of tourism marketing and programming. Graduates should be able to plan, develop, innovate, execute and evaluate professionally in the tourism industry or related fields.
Students have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and skills in the areas of Travel Management and Hospitality Management.
A sequence of modules are comprised to enable further development in these specialist areas as well as a series of electives are offered to meet the different needs of students in fulfilling their personal career aspirations.
Students will be required to gain operational and management insights and to develop their communication and interpersonal skills in a work environment. Field trips and industry visits, together with speeches, seminars, presentations by industry professionals and alumni, give students additional direct exposure to the industry.

Department of Food and Beverages
The Department of Food and Beverage offers a Culinary Arts Management degree and also provides hotel management majors with a basic background in food and beverage operations, which is fundamental to all aspects of the hospitality industry. The department offers an array of food and beverage courses. It also offers a major in Beverage Management. Course instruction includes hands-on laboratory experience and extensive interaction with the food and beverage industry as well as traditional classroom lectures and demonstrations.
The Department of Food and Beverage allows a hotel administration major to major in food service management by following the program requirements. Electives provide opportunities for students to specialize in multiple areas of the food and beverage industry such as fine dining, casual table service restaurants, catering, hotel food and beverage operations, recreational food services, non-commercial food services, and beverage operations.
The department collaborates with the Union of International Hotel Management, which operates 150 Hotel and Restaurants in Asia, three kitchens: one production, one demonstration and one laboratory. The restaurants can accommodate up to average 400 seated.
