Departments of Social Work and Social Administration and Sociology

The Department of Sociology was established at the same time as the Faculty of Social Sciences, which is the study about cultures and societies of people around the world, though naturally, at WCIMT Australia, there is a strong emphasis on China and Asia.

The Department provides students with a basic knowledge of sociological and anthropological concepts theories, and methods, applying these to the empirical study of topics which have some relevance to not only contemporary Asia, but also China and other international societies.

Programmes offered could be grouped under three main streams: Globalization and Regional Studies, Media and Cultural Studies, and Social Problems and Policy Studies. Underlying these three streams is our Department’s specialism and strength in social structural analysis, anthropological expertise and criminological research.

Academic personnel in the Department is come both from social work and related fields as law, economics, politics, psychology, human development, sociology, as well as social administration. Through different kinds of research and practice in Asia and other Chinese societies, we contribute to the development of knowledge and expertise in various areas.

Utilizing our knowledge and expertise, WCIMT Australia is actively serving the community, advocating policy changes, and participating in policy-making, development, management, implementation and evaluation of social services.

The Department has established close partnership with a diverse range of agencies, professional bodies, government departments and advisory bodies. Such strong ties to different sectors of the community have contributed usefully to teaching, learning and career development for our students.
